Playwright and Novelist
Gerry Ringwald is a playwright and novelist based in Chicago. Born in New York, Gerry graduated with a B.A. in Theater from the University of Buffalo. In 1988, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in screenwriting.
Playwright
Since moving to Chicago, Gerry became a Network Playwright at Chicago Dramatists (2010–14), Resident Playwright with the La Strada Ensemble Theater (2014–2018) and Resident Playwright with Three Brothers Theatre in Waukegan, IL (2019-2021).
Gerry’s plays have been produced on both coasts and in the Midwest. His produced full-length playlist includes: Sally Has Something to Say (2019) by the Three Brothers Theatre in Waukegan, IL, and Catchpenny (2018) and Not Curing Cancer (2017) by the La Strada Ensemble Theater in Asbury Park, NJ.
His produced 10-minute playlist includes: Face(book) the Music (2018), which was honored by the Geneva Theatre Guild in Geneva, NY, Sunni Side Up (2018), which was a LGBTQ short play finalist at the Fresh Fruit Festival in New York City, Reunited (and it feels so cruel) (2017), which became a finalist at the Summer Evening Short Play Festival in Western Springs, IL, Decisions, Decisions (2016), which was showcased at the LGBTQ Rainbow Festival in Asbury Park, NJ, and Down for the Count (2015) which was highlighted at the Hollywood Fringe Festival in Los Angeles, CA.
One of Gerry’s most popular satirical plays, Not Curing Cancer was a semifinalist in the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center’s 2014 National Playwrights Conference and was also a finalist at the 2015 Summer Playwrights Festival (sponsored by the Road Theatre Company) in Los Angeles.
To date, Gerry has written seven full-length plays and 20 one-act plays. With more to come.

Novelist
Gerry began writing novels in 2021. His first novel, Runnin' Down the Drain, is a satirical history of the Mulligan clan from the 11th century to the present. This novel is the first of a trilogy featuring the Mulligan family. The second novel of the trilogy, Aim Low, is due to be completed in the summer of 2023.
